Infrastructure gap

The infrastructure gap is the difference between the infrastructure that would be needed and what is present in a country. Around the world, and particularly in Italy, there is a large infrastructure gap in all segments, from transportation to energy to health care.

A gap that has widened over the past decade due to lower public investment in infrastructure, obsolescence in Europe than in the U.S. of structures built in the last century, and the need for new sustainable models for transportation, mobility and energy production.

In Italy there is a clear disproportion between the public funding made available and the infrastructure needs. Hence the need for greater involvement of private capital and expertise to support infrastructure financing, through specific alternative finance instruments such as Project Financing Concessions, in which Hisi is a leading player in the health segment.

Project Financing has the enormous advantage of being a method that allows for certain lead times and is a great resource for bridging the infrastructure gap, a condition of primary importance for the revitalization of the economy.
